Srinagar is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir and one of the most beautiful cities in Bharat, set in the Vale of Kashmir on the banks of the Jhelum river and the shores of the magnificent Dal Lake. 📜 Historical Roots

Srinagar has been a centre of civilisation and culture for over 2000 years. The city was the seat of the Kashmir Shaivite philosophical tradition, one of the most sophisticated and original schools of Hindu philosophy, whose texts (Tantraloka of Abhinavagupta, 10th century CE) represent the summit of Kashmir's intellectual heritage. The Mughal emperors Akbar, Jahangir and Shah Jahan visited Srinagar repeatedly and built the gardens that remain among the most beautiful formal gardens in Asia.

Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport has domestic and some international flights. NH-44 road connectivity (Jammu-Srinagar highway). The Jammu-Srinagar rail link under construction will transform connectivity. JKSRTC bus services across the valley.

🌿 Seasonal Context

Spring (March-May) sees the famous Kashmir tulip gardens bloom and the chinar trees burst into new leaf. Summer (June-August) is the peak tourist season when the valley is green and the lakes are beautiful for shikara rides. Autumn (September-October) is when the chinar leaves turn to gold and amber, creating the most photographed landscape in Kashmir. The saffron harvest at Pampore (October-November) is a unique seasonal event. Winter (December-February) brings snow to Srinagar and skiing to Gulmarg nearby.
