📜 Historical Roots

Udaipur was founded as the capital of the Mewar kingdom whose Sisodia Rajput rulers maintained the longest unbroken dynasty in Rajputana, tracing their lineage to the solar dynasty and Rama himself. The Mewar rulers, particularly Maharana Pratap who resisted Mughal conquest from these hills, are among the most celebrated heroes of Rajput history. The city palaces accumulated over 400 years of royal patronage represent the finest flowering of Rajput palatial architecture.

Udaipur is most beautiful in the post-monsoon October-February season when the lakes are full, the surrounding hills are green and the palace reflections in the water are at their most magical. The Mewar Festival (March-April, Gangaur) is celebrated with royal processions on Lake Pichola. The Shilpgram Crafts Fair (December) is a major cultural event. Diwali illuminates the lake-side palaces magnificently.
