Kheda is the district headquarters of Kheda district in central Gujarat, a town historically significant for the Kheda Satyagraha of 1918, one of Gandhi's first major non-violent campaigns in Bharat, when the peasant farmers of Kheda district who faced crop failure refused to pay land revenue under Gandhi's leadership.
