📜 Historical Roots

Sangli was the seat of the Sangli Princely State under the Patwardhan family, who were one of the important Maratha sardars. The Ganapati temple of Sangli and the city's cultural traditions reflect the patronage of the Patwardhan rulers who maintained Sangli as a centre of arts and culture.

The grape harvest runs from February-April with the wine harvest in late January-February. Gudi Padwa (March-April) marks the Maharashtrian new year and coincides with peak agricultural activity. Ganesh Chaturthi (August-September) is the major community festival. The Ganapati temple of Sangli is a particularly active site during this celebration. The monsoon fills the Krishna river beautifully.
