Narmadapuram, formerly known as Hoshangabad, is the headquarters of Narmadapuram district in Madhya Pradesh, a significant town on the banks of the Narmada river. The official renaming in 2021 honours the sacred river on whose banks the city sits. The Narmada river at Narmadapuram is particularly beautiful and the Sethani Ghat is a beloved riverside promenade. The surrounding district is known for wheat cultivation and soyabean production. The Satpura National Park, one of Madhya Pradesh most important tiger reserves, is accessible from here.

📜 Historical Roots

Hoshangabad was founded by Sultan Hoshang Shah of the Malwa Sultanate in the 15th century, making it one of the historically documented medieval towns of central Bharat. The city position on the Narmada river, one of Bharat most sacred rivers flowing from east to west through the heart of the subcontinent, gives it deep spiritual significance.
