Ongole is the headquarters of Prakasam district and a significant commercial city on the Andhra Pradesh coast, known across Bharat for the Ongole bull, one of the most celebrated cattle breeds in the world whose powerful build, disease resistance and heat tolerance have made it a preferred breed for export to over 70 countries including Brazil, where it forms the foundation of that country's beef cattle industry. Ongole city has an active commercial character with markets, educational institutions and the coastal economy that benefits from its Bay of Bengal proximity.
