Basavanagudi is one of the oldest planned extensions of Bengaluru, developed under the enlightened rule of the Mysore Kingdom. The Bull Temple and the Dodda Ganesha temple are among Bengaluru's most ancient religious institutions. The National College, founded in 1917, was the alma mater of many distinguished Kannadigas who shaped modern Karnataka.
