Electronics City is the original technology park of Bengaluru and one of the foundational sites of Bharat's IT revolution, a planned electronics and technology manufacturing and services zone established in 1978 that houses the Indian headquarters and major development centres of some of the world's largest technology companies, including Infosys (which built its global headquarters here), Wipro, HCL, HP, Siemens and hundreds of other technology firms. The Infosys campus in Electronics City, with its extraordinary architecture, green spaces, restaurants and sporting facilities, is one of the most impressive corporate campuses in Asia and a landmark of Bharat's technology ambition. Electronics City has generated a vast residential ecosystem around it as the technology workforce settled in Sarjapur, Begur and surrounding areas.
Electronics City was established in 1978 by the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation (KEONICS) as a planned zone for electronics manufacturing, decades before the personal computer or internet era. When the software services industry emerged in the 1990s, Electronics City became one of its most important nodes. Infosys, founded in 1981, chose Electronics City for its headquarters, and the campus it built there became a symbol of Bharat's technology aspiration.
Electronics City Metro station on the Green Line (Phase 2). NH-44 road connectivity via Hosur Road. BMTC Tech Park buses. Approximately 18 km from central Bengaluru.
Electronics City's technology campus ecosystem operates year-round on the technology industry's global calendar. The Infosys campus and other major tech campuses organise cultural events for employees marking all major Indian festivals. Ugadi and Rajyotsava are celebrated with particular Karnataka cultural pride. The pleasant Bengaluru winter (November-February) is when outdoor campus events are most popular.
