Kundapura is a coastal town in Udupi district, a small but culturally distinctive town in the Tulu Nadu region known for the Kundapuri Kannada dialect, the Kollur Mookambika temple (one of Karnataka's most important goddess shrines, accessible from Kundapura) and the beautiful Konkan coastline with its beaches, fishing villages and the scenic Souparnika river estuary. The town is an important market centre for arecanut, coconut and fish from the surrounding coastal and rural areas.

The Kollur Mookambika temple, accessible from Kundapura, is one of the most important Shakti shrines in Karnataka and one of the Shakti Peethas of Bharat. The temple's antiquity and the powerful spiritual tradition associated with it make the Kundapura area an important pilgrimage gateway.

🌿 Seasonal Context

The Mookambika temple sees its highest pilgrimage during Navratri (September-October) and the Dasara period. The monsoon (June-September) brings extremely heavy rainfall to the Konkan coast and the forests around Kollur are at their most dramatically lush. The post-monsoon season is when the coastal beaches and the Souparnika estuary are most scenic. The fishing season is most active October-May.
