📍 About this Locality

Yadgiri is the headquarters of Yadgiri district, one of Karnataka newest and most underdeveloped districts carved from Gulbarga district in 2010. The district is primarily agricultural, producing jowar, cotton and tur dal on the semi-arid Deccan plateau. Yadgiri is associated with an important pilgrimage site, the Yadagiri Laxmi Narasimha temple, one of the most visited Vaishnava shrines in Karnataka, located on a hill in the district and drawing large numbers of devotees particularly during Vaikuntha Ekadasi.

📜 Historical Roots

Yadgiri district was part of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region integrated into Karnataka from the Hyderabad Nizam territory in 1956. The area agricultural communities have deep roots in the Deccan dryland farming tradition.

Yadgiri railway station on the Secunderabad-Wadi line. NH-167 road connectivity. Approximately 125 km from Kalaburagi.

🌿 Seasonal Context

Vaikuntha Ekadasi (December-January) is the most significant festival at the Yadagiri Laxmi Narasimha temple drawing lakhs of pilgrims. The temple is visited year-round. The jowar and cotton kharif harvest (October-November) is the most economically active agricultural period. Ugadi (March-April) and Rajyotsava (1 November) are Karnataka community celebrations.
