📍 About this Locality

Mayiladuthurai is the headquarters of Mayiladuthurai district in the Cauvery delta, a temple town on the Cauvery whose name (the place where the peacock danced) refers to the legend of Goddess Parvati worshipping Shiva as a peacock at the Mayuranathaswamy temple. The town sits in the heart of the delta rice country and its Tula Kaveri festival (October-November), when bathing in the Cauvery is considered supremely sacred, draws large numbers of devotees.
