📍 About this Locality

Thiruthuraipoondi is a town in Tiruvarur district in the southern Cauvery delta, an agricultural market centre where paddy cultivation meets the coastal wetlands. The area is close to the Point Calimere Wildlife Sanctuary (Kodiakkarai), the famed coastal reserve where the delta meets the sea, hosting vast flocks of migratory birds including flamingos on the salt swamps and one of the last populations of blackbuck on the coastal grasslands.
