Manapparai is a town in Tiruchirappalli district famous across Tamil Nadu for the Manapparai murukku, the crisp spiral rice-flour savoury whose distinctive taste (attributed to the local water) has made the town name synonymous with the snack throughout the Tamil world. The town is also a significant cattle market centre, its weekly shandy being one of the largest livestock markets in central Tamil Nadu.
