Pincode 700056 covers the Salt Lake (Bidhannagar) area of greater Kolkata, one of the most ambitious planned satellite cities in post-independence Bharat developed on reclaimed saltmarsh, now the IT hub of eastern Bharat. The Sector V IT park area houses hundreds of IT companies including Infosys, Wipro, IBM, Cognizant and many others. Bidhannagar is also home to the Science City (one of Asia largest science centres), major stadiums complex and planned residential sectors.

📜 Historical Roots
Bidhannagar was conceived by Chief Minister Bidhan Chandra Roy as a planned satellite city for Calcutta. The development of Sector V as an IT hub from the 1990s transformed the planned residential city into eastern Bharat technology capital, playing the same role for Kolkata that Electronics City plays for Bengaluru.
