📍 About this Locality

Cuttack is Odisha second largest city and its former capital, known as the Silver City for the extraordinary Cuttack Chandi Medha (silver filigree work) tradition that has made its craftsmen celebrated across the world for their delicate silver jewellery and decorative objects. The city sits on a peninsula formed by the Mahanadi and Kathajodi rivers and has been an important centre of Odisha for over a millennium. Cuttack is the birthplace of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, one of Bharat most revered freedom fighters, and the Netaji Birth Place Museum is an important national heritage site.

📜 Historical Roots

Cuttack was the capital of Odisha for nearly a thousand years under various dynasties before Bhubaneswar became the planned capital after independence. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was born in Cuttack on 23 January 1897, and the city connection to this supreme nationalist hero is a source of immense civic pride.

Cuttack railway station on the Howrah-Chennai main line. NH-16 and NH-55 road connectivity. Approximately 25 km from Bhubaneswar.

🌿 Seasonal Context

Cuttack Durga Puja (October) is one of the most spectacular in Bharat, with enormous outdoor pandals and elaborate silver and gold decorations. Netaji Jayanti (23 January) is observed with particular civic significance. The Rath Yatra and all major Odishan festivals are observed.
