Imphal is the capital of Manipur, a city of deep historical significance set in the Imphal valley surrounded by forested hills, known for the extraordinary Ima Keithel (Mothers Market), the world largest market run entirely by women, where thousands of Meitei women traders conduct commerce in a tradition that has continued for over 500 years. The Kangla Fort, the ancient seat of the Meitei kings and the spiritual heart of Manipuri civilisation, is the most sacred site in the valley. 📜 Historical Roots

Imphal was the scene of one of the most decisive battles of the Second World War, the Battle of Imphal (1944), in which Japanese and INA forces attempted to capture the city and were repulsed in a battle that turned the tide of the Burma campaign. The INA presence, fighting under Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose for Indian independence, gives Imphal a significant place in Bharat freedom struggle narrative.
