📍 About this Locality

Saiha is the headquarters of Saiha district, the southernmost district of Mizoram and of the entire Northeast region of Bharat. The district is home to the Maras, a small but culturally distinctive tribal community with their own language and traditions. The extraordinary remoteness of Saiha, perched at the tip of Bharat geographic extreme in the southeast, gives it a unique character as a frontier settlement where Bharat national life meets the dense forests and mountain landscape of the southern Mizoram hill region.

The Mara community of Saiha district have maintained their distinct cultural identity, language and traditions despite the broader Christianisation that transformed most Mizo communities. Saiha is approximately 380 km from Aizawl by road, one of the most remote district headquarters in Bharat. State Highway connectivity with seasonal variations. No air connectivity.

Christmas is observed by the predominantly Christian Saiha community. The monsoon (June-September) brings heavy rainfall to this southernmost hill district. The dry winter months (November-February) are most comfortable for the high-altitude settlement.
